Our Story
Clotho Cloaks is a family owned company that sprang from an idea in 2019 when we wanted to do a fun Viking themed photoshoot. Our mother began making Viking style cloaks for this photoshoot, however our adventure was cut short. Unfortunately, our sister, Alyssa, had taken a nasty turn in her health and the photoshoot idea got shelved until she was healthy enough for it. With a shocking twist of fate and the feeling of a dagger in our hearts, we lost our sister to her illness.
Nearly a year later, as if it were fate, we finally unearthed our cloaks again for the Utah Ren Festival in 2024. The day we went to the festival, it was pouring rain, yet we all stayed warm bundled in our cloaks made by our mother. We had gotten so many compliments on how well crafted and nice they were. Several attendees asked where we had gotten them and how much they cost. They were always shocked when we responded that our mother had made them for us.
Several months later, we attended the Samhain festival, donning our cloaks. Again, we were met with a shocking amount of admiration. When we spoke with some of the vendors and attendees, they all urged us to share our cloaks with the world.
At the start of 2025, my brother and I began making plans to launch the company. The idea of Clotho Cloaks was born. However, my brother and I being nerds, we only have business and social media skills ourselves. So we had to enlist the help of our mother to create our product. With all of us working together, we have managed to launch a successful business and attended our first Ren Faire in the spring of 2025. During the three weekends, we managed to sell over 60 cloaks with several people asking for custom orders, despite the hot Utah weather. At one point we had to shut down early because we ran out of stock. All the vendors near us were shocked that it was our first faire given how successful we were.
Even though my brother and I started this company, we wanted to honor our mother and sister. Our mother is teaching us how to sew and to weave our own path. Our sister taught us to be our authentic selves. Because of the fates in our lives, we decided to name our company Clotho, after the Greek fate that weaves the threads of life.
Now we are moving ever onwards to bigger and better things. Keep your eyes peeled and your head on a swivel, you won't want to miss when Clotho Cloaks soars to the top!
Thank you from all of us here at Clotho Cloaks we love and appreciate you all and we know that we wouldn't be where we are without all of your love and support.
Much love Thorsus, Leker and, our lovely seamstress Gunnhild (Mother of Kings)
